While strolling through Kyoto's townhouses with my wife, we were drawn to a traditional Japanese confectionery shop—a place I often visited on special days in my childhood. Walking in, we were greeted by a pleasant "Oideyasu~" and before long, I found the Juraku Manju from Shioyoshiken; my number one recommendation for traditional sweets. We took some time to pause for a break with the boss to enjoy some matcha and Juraku Manju. From its texture, to its presentation, to its shape, to the sense of seasonality it evokes—it was perfect! The store had numerous sweets which radiate with traditional depth. Witnessing this legacy passed down through generations warms my heart.
