Legal notice

The terms of version KUDEN-01-2026-08-01 (effective 3 August 2026) govern. This page is the statutory disclosure required by Japan's Act on Specified Commercial Transactions and summarises those terms. Where the two differ, the policy pages govern.

Two kinds of product

Our terms differ by product. Each section below is written for both.

  • Made-to-order garments (Samurai Mode) — fabric is secured after you order, and one artisan sews each garment.
  • Vintage items (haori from haoru by KUDEN) — single pieces held in stock.

The delivery terms on this page do not apply to rinlife Magazine subscriptions.

Price

Prices are shown in Japanese yen and charged as shown, whether the destination is inside or outside Japan. For delivery within Japan, the price includes Japanese consumption tax.

Your order and the amount charged are as shown in Shopify Checkout.

Costs beyond the price

Made-to-order garments. None. Ordinary shipping, import duty, VAT/GST/sales tax and ordinary customs handling are included in the price. We sell only where we have confirmed we can carry these costs, and we do not bill them afterwards for the destination agreed at checkout.

Exceptional costs — caused by an incomplete address, information not supplied, refusal of delivery, extended storage, or a split or repeat delivery you ask for — are yours. We will tell you what they are and estimate them beforehand wherever we can.

Vintage items. Shipping, shown and charged at checkout according to the destination. Import duty, import taxes and customs charges are paid by you to the carrier or customs authority on arrival.

Where we ship

We offer checkout only in the countries and regions we have confirmed and approved. If the destination, the law, customs, payment or shipping insurance cannot be satisfied, the purchase cannot be made.

Payment methods

Choose from the methods shown at checkout. What is available depends on the destination and on the payment provider's settings.

Solana Pay is expected to accept USDC and SOL. The assets and networks actually available are as shown by Solana Pay at the time of payment.

When payment is taken

Made-to-order garments. The contract is formed when you complete checkout. The product and the colour are fixed at that point; the size is provisional.

  • Card and other methods that support manual capture. We authorise at the time of the order and capture after you approve the final specification by email, within the authorisation period. If the final specification is not settled within that period, we release the authorisation. Where no charge has been made, there is no refund and no cancellation fee.
  • Solana Pay and other immediate methods. Payment completes at the time of the order.

Vintage items. Payment is taken at the time of the order, as shown at checkout.

Confirming the final specification, and the reply deadline

For made-to-order garments, we email you the product, the colour, the final size, an individual shipping window and the applicable terms. Your reply of “I confirm” is the final specification approval.

We tell you the reply deadline with the date, the time and the time zone.

  • Card and other methods with an authorisation period. We contact you around the third and fifth day after your order. If the final specification is not settled within six days, we release the authorisation and cancel the original order. If we are still in touch, we carry on with the sizing and send you a payment link for a replacement order once the specification is settled.
  • Solana Pay and other immediate methods. If your replies stop, we contact you around the fifth and tenth day. After fourteen consecutive calendar days without a reply, we treat it as a cancellation at your request before final specification approval, and refund less the payment-processing and cryptocurrency conversion fees that are not returned to us.

If a delay on our side left you without enough time to review, we do not treat it as a cancellation for want of a reply.

Delivery

Made-to-order garments. Production begins on the day both final specification approval and payment capture are complete. From there, shipping is about three months. In rare cases — for example where a fabric has to be sourced or dyed for your order, or an artisan's schedule requires it — it can take longer.

This is an estimate, not a guaranteed date. If we expect to miss the window we gave you, we will tell you before it passes, with the reason and a new estimate, and you may either continue or cancel for a full refund with no fee deducted.

Vintage items. Dispatched within three business days of confirmed payment.

Production capacity

Capacity for made-to-order garments is limited. A place is held provisionally when you complete your order, and confirmed once both final specification approval and payment capture are complete.

Changes and cancellation

Made-to-order garments. The product and the colour are fixed when you order and cannot be changed afterwards. The size can be changed up to final specification approval.

Before final specification approval, cancellation depends on the payment method. Orders held only on authorisation are released, and nothing is deducted where no charge was made. Orders already paid through Solana Pay or another immediate method are refunded less the payment-processing fees not returned to us and the cryptocurrency conversion fees actually incurred. We tell you what is being deducted before we refund, and we deduct nothing that the record of that transaction does not show. We pay the network fee on the refund.

After final specification approval, we cannot accept cancellation, a change of product, colour or size, or a refund at your request, because the specification is fixed and the order goes to the artisan and to fabric sourcing.

Vintage items. You may cancel before dispatch.

Returns and exchanges

Made-to-order garments. Where a garment is made to the approved specification, we cannot generally accept a return or remake on grounds of preference or fit alone.

This does not affect rights of withdrawal, cancellation or remedy for non-conformity that are mandatory where you bought. In the EU and the United Kingdom, made-to-order garments chosen from standard sizes and standard colours are treated as carrying the statutory right of withdrawal.

Vintage items. You may request a return within fourteen calendar days of arrival, unused and with everything that came with it. Returns are approved in advance. Return postage for a return at your request is yours. Where value is lost through handling beyond ordinary inspection, soiling, damage or missing items, we may reduce the refund by a reasonable amount, showing you the reason and photographs.

Faults, wrong items and damage in transit. Please contact us within about fourteen calendar days of arrival with the order number, the condition and photographs. That period does not limit your statutory remedies. We will look at it and offer repair, remaking, replacement, or a full or partial refund — whichever leaves you worst off least. We pay the return postage in these cases.

Slight variation in colour, hand or measurement that comes from the material and the handwork, and does not affect wear or the approved specification, is not a fault.

How and when we refund

Card refunds go back to the original payment method in the original currency. We cannot cover exchange differences or fees applied by your bank or card issuer.

Cryptocurrency refunds are made in USDC, based on the USD amount Solana Pay recorded when the payment succeeded, and sent to the wallet the payment came from.

We begin processing a refund within five business days of deciding on it. For a vintage item returned at your request, we process it after we receive and inspect the return. When the money reaches you depends on the payment provider, the bank or the network.
