When is it “chic” to wear a sakura-patterned kimono? - KUDEN by TAKAHIRO SATO

Answer

Before the cherry blossoms bloom

The important thing with seasonal patterns is to “anticipate the season. "
If a cherry blossom pattern is in full bloom, it is considered chic to wear it in bud, about half a month before the actual blooming.

However, cherry blossoms are one of the most representative flowers of Japan, and if only flowers are designed and drawn, they can be worn in any season.

Floral and botanical patterns are often worn during the actual season, but there are many other motifs in kimono.
Geometric patterns such as checkerboard and polka dots, and animal patterns such as peacocks and goldfish.
These patterns are motifs that can be worn regardless of the season.

Kissho patterns

Among traditional patterns, those that are especially auspicious and good luck, and patterns with motifs of animals and plants are called Kissho patterns.

Typical examples include pine, bamboo, and plum, as well as cranes, turtles, and phoenixes.

It is also “chic” to choose according to where you are going to wear it and what you are going to do with it.
